San Francisco Engagement Photos: Hye-Myoung & Hyo-Joo

March 26, 2026
Engagement

On October 14th, I photographed Hye-Myoung and Hyo-Joo for their engagement session in San Francisco as they were getting ready for their wedding in Korea. They wanted their San Francisco engagement photos to feel romantic and true to them—nothing forced, nothing overly posed—just a beautiful day that felt like them.

We started with a quiet, flower-filled moment, then opened things up to sweeping skyline views. From there we chased classic city textures—cable car tracks, tree-lined streets, and timeless architecture—before wrapping along the Embarcadero near the Ferry Building. And of course, we made time for the Golden Gate Bridge: breezy, iconic, and unbelievably romantic.

Planning the Perfect San Francisco Engagement Photos

October is one of my favorite times to photograph in San Francisco. The air feels crisp, the light is flattering, and you often get those clear, bright stretches where the city feels wide open. It’s also an ideal season for building a session that moves—views, streets, waterfront—without feeling rushed.

When Hye-Myoung and Hyo-Joo and I planned their route, we focused on two priorities:

  • A mix of iconic “San Francisco” landmarks and quieter pockets that feel personal
  • A flow that felt like a real date—walking, talking, laughing—so the photos stayed natural

A San Francisco Engagement Session That Felt Like a Real Date

We started with something quiet and soft—lush greenery and bright bougainvillea framing a moment where the rest of the city felt far away. That’s one of my favorite things about San Francisco for engagement photos: you can find intimacy even when you’re surrounded by iconic scenery.

From there, we opened everything up. With the skyline stretching behind them, Hye-Myoung and Hyo-Joo fell into an easy rhythm—walking, smiling, pulling each other in close, and then breaking into that spontaneous, playful energy that makes a gallery feel alive. Those little in-between moments—laughter, movement, a quick squeeze of the hands—are always the ones that feel the most true when you look back.

As we moved through the city, the backdrops changed naturally, almost like chapters in the same date: cable car tracks underfoot, classic streets with that unmistakable San Francisco charm, warm architecture that added a calm, editorial texture, and then the bold lines of historic brick arches that made everything feel timeless.

We wrapped along the Embarcadero near the Ferry Building—bright, breezy, and full of that waterfront energy—before ending with the Golden Gate Bridge in the distance. Even somewhere that iconic can still feel intimate when you let it: a simple handhold, easy smiles, the bouquet adding a soft romantic touch, and one of those cinematic kiss-and-laugh moments that’s impossible to force (and impossible to forget).
